Hannah and Simon’s sunny day between the clouds.
Over the course of many years now, I have bumped into Hannah and Simon on a number of occasions, the first time I was dressed as a Care Bear and the second a cheerleader! – not your usual attire for prospective clients to see you in! (Hannah’s brother James is a very good friend of mine so the excuse for the clothing choices was usually due to one of his fancy dress parties!) I was honoured when they asked me to photograph their wedding. They are such a fun couple and so well connected to each other.
When deciding where to get married, they chose a comfortable country home with a quaint church just a short walk away. The guests were able to stay at the venue and in the onsite tipis.
I was able to split my time documenting both Hannah and Simons preparations as both were getting ready at the venue.
As Hannah walked down the aisle with her dad, the butterflies were apparent. The moment Hannah saw Simon looking so smart and handsome all rolled into one – it is something she will simply never forget. Their eyes locked and it was pure happiness that showed on their faces in the form of wide genuine smiles. The readings were heartfelt and emotional and the church was such a picturesque backdrop to the simple yet elegant service.
With an entire week of heavy rain, Hannah and Simon were more than lucky to have the most gorgeous of wedding days. It was as if the clouds parted for that one day and bathed the wedding in beautiful summers sun (the torrents began again that night). We had the most gorgeous traditional English gardens and Pennard House as a backdrop, complete with crumbling walls and climbing roses. Everyone was so relaxed which allowed the pictures to flow naturally, each moment was comfortable and filled with wonderful smiles.
The Coach House was set up with beautiful and casual elegance. The flowers were country style shabby chic with subtle pastels – roses, peonies, freesia and lavender. The favours were homemade jams with lavender heart and wildflower seeds donated by Simon’s creative mum. The guests mulled about enjoying emotional heartfelt and humorous speeches (Hannah’s dad gave one of the best I have ever heard) The couple chose Sam Smiths song “Latch” for their first dance and swayed to the music, and soon after the first dance the singing began as Hannah’s dad and James performed in their band The New Originals. The bride herself joined in on a tune which was a welcome surprise by all.
When I asked Hannah and Simon if they had any advice for future couples on planning their wedding day Hannah was very practical, at first. Plan early, break down tasks and payments, don’t leave things to the last minute. But the more important advice was this – enjoy each moment before, during and after. The time goes too fast! And look forward to married life and the promise of a wonderful future together.
