Stone Barn Cotswolds Wedding
Carly & Matt
Snow on a wedding day must be every wedding photographer’s greatest nightmare and biggest dream in equal measures. There’s something quite magical about a snowy backdrop, but at the same time, we always worry that something will prevent us from getting there.
When it started to snow the day before Carly and Matt’s wedding, I began to feel more and more nervous. For a while, I contemplated setting off a day early. The snow finally stopped so instead I decided to move my car to the end of my (un-made and bumpy) road so I wouldn’t get stuck in the morning. And that’s when I realised I was snowed in! After several hours of digging, with the help of my neighbours, I realised it was hopeless, so I called on the help of a photographer friend with snow tyres. He kindly drove me and stayed around to do some second shooting. I do love the way the wedding photography industry always pulls together when someone is in a difficult situation. Thanks again, Paul :)
The Wedding Venue – Cripps Stone Barn Cotswolds
Carly and Matt were getting married at Stone Barn in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. A venue they had chosen because it was both rustic and unconventional. The drive there through the snow-dusted countryside was beautiful, and we arrived with enough time to spare to have breakfast in a nearby village.
Despite the stress they bring I adore a snowy wedding. Carly and Matt’s venue was perfect for the weather. Amazing views surround the rustic buildings. I will love them forever for braving the cold and still looking happy for their portraits. Carly looked stunning in her Suzanne Neville dress, but I’m surprised she didn’t turn blue! The snow made for gorgeous backdrops and the golden hour light was so special.
Carly and Matt had chosen a humanist ceremony conducted by Zena Birch, who was terrific. She delivered a wonderfully heartfelt and very personal ceremony with some hilarious stories.
The atmosphere was excellent throughout the whole day, and one of the highlights was the guests singing along with the acoustic guitar throughout the dinner. Carly and Matt hadn’t been concerned about a theme for their wedding, they wanted the day to be relaxed and modern and with a real party feel and they certainly achieved their aim.
