IRONMONGERS HALL, LONDON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
I love Ironmongers’ Hall—tucked away in a spot you’d never expect, right in the middle of the concrete maze that is the Barbican. It’s like discovering a hidden piece of history, with its rich wooden panelling and old-world charm that feels like stepping into a scene from Harry Potter. The contrast is stunning: step outside and you’re surrounded by brutalist architecture and striking lines, offering incredible backdrops and lighting for portraits. It’s a perfect blend of the magical and the modern.

St. Giles Cripplegate church for your ceremony
If you’re planning a religious ceremony, St Giles’ Cripplegate is just a short walk away. It’s a beautiful, historic church with stunning stained glass windows and soft, natural light—perfect for a heartfelt ceremony. What makes it even more special is its setting: nestled right in the heart of the Barbican’s brutalist architecture. The contrast is striking and unique. As you walk from the church to Ironmongers’ Hall, there’s so much opportunity to capture truly atmospheric portraits—elegant tradition set against raw concrete lines. I love the way these spaces play off each other. It’s such a rich and unexpected blend of old and new, hidden and monumental.
WHERE TO GET READY?
If you’re getting married at Ironmongers’ Hall, you’ve got some great options for your morning preparations. One of the most convenient choices is to use one of the large rooms available at the venue itself. Ironmongers’ Hall offers beautifully furnished spaces—like the Drawing Room or Court Room—that can be reserved for getting ready. These rooms provide ample space, natural light, and classic interiors, making them perfect for bridal prep photos and a calm start to the day without needing to travel between venues.
For those who prefer a more modern setting, several stylish hotels are nearby, including The Ned and Malmaison in Farringdon. These hotels offer spacious suites ideal for hair and makeup, as well as relaxing with your wedding party. Whichever you choose, the location around the Barbican offers a unique backdrop, making your journey from prep to ceremony a perfect photo opportunity in itself.

Harriet & Ed
Harriet and Ed’s March wedding was a beautiful celebration set against the historic charm of Ironmongers’ Hall, with their ceremony taking place just a short walk away at St Giles’ Cripplegate. Walking from the church to Ironmongers Hall was a perfect opportunity to photograph the couple among the striking architecture and dramatic light that make the area so unique. The setting held special meaning for Ed, who was born in one of the nearby Barbican towers—visible from the church itself—adding a deeply personal layer to the day.
Catherine & James
Catherine and James both wanted a relaxed wedding and to show their American guests the “English English” style in London and ensure that their British counterparts felt at home as well. The florals were simply stunning! The bouquets were large and had a vintage colour scheme of creams, dusty blues with deep hints of red. The rooms at Ironmongers are stunning – rich in history and situated right in the heart of the city, yet tucked away as if a hidden sanctuary. James’s love of storytelling led them to decide on handwritten notes to their guests in lieu of favours.
