Wedding Photography in Cologne with Andrej and Katha
Featuring a quaint church, sculpture park, beautiful castle and a flash mob!
You never really know who you might meet and when. Call it what you wish, but fate and circumstances placed myself and this lovely couple together at the most interesting of moments.
Andrej and Katharina (Katha to her love and friends) were on holiday in Thailand when our paths first crossed. We had bumped into each other the night prior at our hotel in Chiang Khong. The next day our paths crossed once again in the back of a pickup truck during some very wet weather. The journey continued while traveling down the Mekong river. We had the most interesting, albeit comical, interaction with border patrol. After Katha finally sorted out repossessing our visas, we somehow managed to find some seats on the boat rampant with drunk tourists. Needless to say, we became fast friends. We explored Luang Prabang together and little did I know, Andrej had proposed that very day to Katha! To this day that priceless romantic moment is forever their little secret.
Andrej and Katha first locked eyes at the Cologne Karneval festival in the spring of 2007. They both loved the dancing, singing and all the craziness of the Karneval. Eight years after meeting at the festival, the two tied the knot. Choosing a traditional ceremony, fingers interlaced and arm and arm, they walked down the aisle together, partners from the very beginning. Deciding not to write their own vows, the pastor instead gave a heartfelt and intimate sermon. The rush of love felt from friends and family washed through the grand hall in a wave of pure happiness. Katha and Andrej were both completely a beam with intense pride and joy.
Following the ceremony, we ventured into a nearby sculpture park and old fort, absolutely perfect for timeless intimate portraits. As I began taking pictures, they became more relaxed and less aware of my presence. Each glance and touch was intimate and genuine – filled with love. They couldn’t have asked for a more interesting and fun backdrop.
After receiving and greeting family and friends, the party began set in a beautiful and breathtaking castle – Kommandeursburg. Similar to Karneval, the venue allowed them to celebrate without restrictions and utter abandon. The green, cream and magenta tones brightened the interior and gave a distinct richness to the modest manor. Katha and Andrej waltzed slowly to the music and drank each moment in. The most exciting and surprising moment of the night came when their guests broke into a flash mob to the smooth sounds of “Uptown Funk”. It was quite a sight to be seen!
So what advice do these two give to other couples? Don’t try to make everyone happy on your wedding day. Not only is that impossible, but its your day – make it your very own!
