Loseley Park Wedding Photography – Guildford
Loselely Park is a stunning exclusive use wedding venue in the Surrey countryside, just south of Guildford. This beautiful privately owned manor house dates back to the 16th century and sits in 1400 acres of rolling countryside. I never tire of the approach to the house, even though I’ve photographed several weddings and visited many times with friends in the summer months. The mile-long private driveway winds its way through the parkland before opening out to a wonderful view of the Elizabethan manor surrounded by 3 acres of stunning walled gardens and carefully tended lawns. The gardens provide an ever-changing backdrop for wedding photographs and are beautiful whatever the time of year.
Couples planning a wedding at Loseley Park have a choice of locations for a civil ceremony. In the house itself there is the grandeur of the Great Hall with its wood-panelled walls or the elegance of the Drawing Room with its stunning fireplace carved from chalk. The 17th-century Tithe Barn is also licensed for ceremonies and is perfect for couples wanting a more rustic backdrop. The walled gardens provide a beautiful and ever-changing backdrop for wedding photographs and are a perfect setting for drinks receptions. The gardens are also available for celebrant led wedding ceremonies.
Religious Ceremonies – Local Churches
Loseley Park is surrounded by picturesque countryside and villages and there are several churches nearby for couples booking the gardens and Tithe Barn for their reception but opting for a religious ceremony. Helen and Doug were married at St Nicholas Church, Peper Harow, a beautifully restored church only 15 minutes away. The light here was just beautiful and I loved the pale-coloured interior and stunning ceiling. Other nearby churches include Busbridge Church (13 minutes drive), The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul (11 minutes), St Marys Church Shalford (9 minutes) and almost on the doorstep is St Francis, a Church of England church a mere 4 minutes drive from Loseley Park.
Where to Get Ready at Loseley Park?
In addition to wonderful spaces for ceremonies and celebrations Loseley House also has a light and airy room for bridal preparations, it’s a real oasis of calm with plenty of space. The Bothy is an exciting new addition, this accommodation is situated at the end of the walled garden and available for newly married couples to book for their wedding night stay.
Local Hotels and AirBnB’s for Guests
There is no shortage of accommodation for guests to stay nearby, from lovely country pubs to rural AirBnBs. The Stag On The River is a great nearby option for guests, I’ve dined here several times and it’s a lovely rustic beamed pub with great food and just 12 minutes away. The Withies Inn is even closer and its Deluxe Room with high ceilings and exposed beams would be great for bride or groom preparations. For guests preferring the convenience of staying in Guildford, the Harbour Hotel has a luxury spa to relax and unwind.
A quick search on AirBnB shows that there is a wonderful array of property to rent nearby. There are plenty of romantic hideaways in converted farm buildings such as this unique bothy, this beautiful dairy conversion or this quirky stable conversion. This beautifully converted cowshed has lovely gardens and would be a great place to get ready and I can’t help thinking that this country cottage and this barn conversion would be a great place to stay the night before with your bridesmaids.
Helen & Doug’s Loseley Park Wedding in Guildford Surrey
I can’t think of Helen and Doug’s Loseley Park wedding without immediately thinking of flowers! The gardens at Loseley Park were beautiful in spring for their pre-wedding shoot. They were equally glorious and full of colour as we returned in summer for wedding celebrations. It wasn’t just the Loseley Park gardens that were full of blooms, florist Kate Osbourne from The Gorgeous Flower Company decorated the church and adorned the barn with the most amazing floral decorations you can imagine.
Helen and Doug are both doctors, and they met on a winter night in A&E. They had discreetly conducted their relationship, unaware their colleagues had been avidly observing their blossoming romance while at work. More than six years later, and after Doug’s proposal on holiday in Kuala Lumpur. They celebrated their wedding on a beautiful summer’s day in Surrey. Helen had grown up in Surrey, and she fell in love with the gardens and history of Loseley Park, a perfect setting for an English Country Wedding.
With the help of Charlie, my second shooter, we started the day capturing Doug’s preparations at the Princess Royal Hotel in Farnham and Helen’s at The Barn at Roundhurst. Helen had the most beautiful Pronovias Vicenta dress, with a delicate lace top, from Mirror Mirror in Islington and she looked amazing.
Ceremony at St Nicholas Church in Peper Harow
The ceremony took place St Nicholas Church in Peper Harow. The church has a beautiful traditional entrance that Kate had decorated with her amazing floral creations. It made a perfect backdrop for some of the more formal photos and confetti line.
Loseley Park Wedding Venue in Guildford
After the ceremony, an old London bus transported the guests to Loseley Park in Guildford Surrey. The weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed a drinks reception and canapés in the walled garden. Late afternoon saw everyone moving to the 17th-century tithe barn for the wedding breakfast and party. The evening finished with a beautiful sparkler circle. I was really happy to have just a short journey home. Much as I love to travel for wedding photography I also love that this fantastic location is so close to home!
